I did not know him but as I made a quilt block to honor him, I felt that he was more than just a name. He was a father, a fiance, friend and an avid basketball fan. My heart goes out to his family and friends as we share this trajedy with you. I submitted a prior tribute for Andrew & submitted it before I signed my name. As I said, I made a quilt block in the United In Memory Quilt that is being done to commemorate every victim of 9/11. My block with an eagle was to represent Andrew's spirit as it soars over & above the maliciousness of the act of these terrorists. I hope that the quilt will appear at ground zero when it is finished. Andrew & all those people did not die in vain. They exemplify the American spirit. I knew andrew bailey he was my older cousin. I miss him dearly. It was weird at my high school graduation my whole family was crying when the star bangled banner was sung, because he wasn't there. When I was a hockey-mad teenager, dreaming of being the first woman to play in the NHL, Ace was playing left wing for the Boston Bruins. I used to spend hours on my backyard rink slapping a puck around, imagining how wonderful it would be if some day he and I could be on the same team. That was 30 years ago. He was a hero to me then. Ace, Kathy and Todd, As the anniversary of September 11th roles around, you are constantly on my mind and in my prayers. I can't begin to imagine how difficult this has been for you and will be for you for a long time to come. Ace was a great guy who made everyone he came into contact with as comfortable as he could. To Ace's Family: One of my fondest memories was playing in a golf tournament on Cape Cod nearly 10 years ago with many of the current and former Boston Bruins. Ace Bailey was in the foresome that won the overall net score for the tournament. He had a great sense of humor and brought a lot of fun to a very worthwhile charity endeavor that day. I remember one of the things that haunted me the most about that day was that a local sports channel interview Wayne Gretzky and he commented that he'd wondered what your last moments on the plane would have been like; in his words "Ace was a man of action" -Your story is just one of many thousands, but it really touched me, and though we will never really know what your last moments were like I know Wayne was right about what he'd said. Kathys story. She was born in a very small village in Macedonia region of Greece, use to tell that as child her school bus was a sad donkey. She moved to USA at 12 knowing just how to say "hello" in english. We met at university when she was 20. Her english perfect, no accent at all. Her parents were very poor, but hard working Greek immigrants in Manchester, NH. Her father Evangelous never learned english was a house painter, her mother Soultana worked in a factory. Kathy graduated with a simple B.S. in accounting from a not very good state university. She loved "numbers" back then because it was easier than english. But, it was obvious to all, she was very talented even at a very young age. Kathy moved from NH to Brooklyn, found a job at small local bank. She advanced in her career quickly, moving to Seattle, then Chicago, her career growing to the highest level imaginable. But she never forgot where she came from. She was a simple village girl from Greece, understood family and freinds most of all. She shared her success with all. On morning of Sept.11th, she was 44, it was her 1st day of work on her new job as VP FINANCE No. America, Marsh (basically the biggest job in international banking on earth,pretty good for a village greek girl). Her executive suite office was 90th floor Tower One. HER 1st day, she arrived to her new office at 8:40, 10 minutes later, a Boeing 737 literally comes thru her office windows. Hopefully Kathy was killed "instantly". Like all who lost loved ones on that day we hope it was at least quick. No trace was ever found of her. Kathys dream was to retire at 50, help family and friends and enjoy life. Later discovered that Kathy was sending money back to her little Greek village to build a new school for children. She would have done MUCH more had 9/11 not happenend. Kathy, we miss you. Why you and others were murdered is a question for for politics and history. Hopefully others will not feel the loss of loved ones, on a purely political murder on the world stage. Seen over and over again, for years! We miss you. But, you taught love. I was your platoon sergeant in the NY Army National Guard.It is a time honored tradition in the army for a platoon sergeant to break-in and train the brand new lieutant. It was my honor to have been your platoon sergeant. The one thing that was evident early on in meeting you was the empathy you had for your soldiers.It was what endeared you to the men.It showed me that you were not the average lieutenant that comes and goes in a sergeants career.I liked you from the very beginning, unusual for a platoon sergeant like me.(I guess I knew subconciously you were special from the start.)In all our times together in the field, and the many late night talks of military stratagey and the challenges of military leadership you had the one thing that can't be taught�you cared. We train in our careers knowing that one day we can be called to give the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefield. Hello, I didn't personally know Scott D. Bart of his family but I wanted to tell the family that I placed a flag on his name yesterday at the 9-11 Memorial Walk in Sacramento, California. The memorial service was very touching. I don�t know what it was, but I felt drawn to Scott�s name. As soon as I got home I googled his name and was devastated to learn his story. Hi. I received a Mercy Band Bracelet with Guy Barzvi's name on it, and I was curious to see and learn about him and his life. I want to tell each and everyone out there that knew him or even knew anyone that passed away to keep the faith, be strong and everyone will get through it all together. I was lucky enough to not know anyone who had passed away but I feel so bad for all of the families and friends who lost love ones. Out of all the people that were involved in the Hijacking of any planes and the people in the WTC and the Pentegon I think that the people of United Airlines Flight 93 were the bravest. Unlike the Firefighters of Police you were not signed up for this sort of thing, but you felt that it was your duty to you country and your family and most of all your self to fight back against the hijackers. You gave your own life knowing the chance of you surviving was small, just so that another place was destroyed and possibly thousands more people die. It has almost been a year since the tragic event occurred, and I still find myself tearing up when just thinking about it all. Granted, I knew none of the victims personally, but I truly feel like I owe all of them my love and prayers. The Beamer Family, Before September 11, 2001, I never truly knew what a genuine hero was or if one even really existed. My prayers are for you every SINGLE day. Honestly, not a day goes by where I don't think about the tragedies of Sept. 11, 2001. I think about Lisa and the boys and Morgan, and what life could have offered them if their incredible husband/father were still around. Then I read "Let's Roll" by Lisa Beamer and realized she FULLY relied on God to guide her and her faith, love, trust and hope for the future is placed only in His hands. It's evident that's the kind of people she and Todd were raised to be. However, in the midst of such a horrifying tragedy Lisa's walk with God remained a strong one. She has encouraged me to trust in God more and to strengthen my relationship with Him. That's what Todd lived for and is now living happily in heaven awaited the arrival of his family. I was recently assigned a paper for English class to select an American Hero and write an essay on ANYONE I thought filled the description. Of course, Todd Beamer was the FIRST person I thought of and the one I wrote my paper on. His love, mercy, and patience will live on through his wife and children. They have hope because Jesus DIED for ALL of us. I pray daily for this family and that God continues to bless Lisa and her children as the future can be unclear and at times, scary. I regret that I never came across Todd Beamer in my lifetime but am encouraged that I came across Lisa and Todd's TRUE story. Dear Beamer family, I am so glad I found this site so that I can finally express my deep appreciation for the sacrifice Todd made for our country and the bravery that Lisa has shown in the aftermath. I was pregnant with my first child at the time of the attacks. Out here in Texas I was feeling sorry for myself because my husband had lost his job and my ankles were swelling. On Sept. 11th, Paul wanted to be with his daughter, taking her to her first day of pre-school. Today is my son's first day of pre-school and all day I've been thinking about Paul. Paul did everything for his girls, his dedication and patience with them would sometimes make me feel terribly limitted as a parent. I remember one time I found the three of them playing in the backyard. Paul had some paint out and there was some kind of dough under a bowl and everyone was covered in flour. As my 2 year old rushed to the table to disrupt the bowl, Paul stopped him and told him how upset the girls would get if their "cake" was disturbed. I remember asking him how he got stuck with this duty, and he attempted to shrug off my suggestion that this time with his daughters was a chore. He was trying to let me off easily, he was trying not to show that my suggestion was a big insult. I realized that everything Paul did was to create that time in his backyard with his girls. Everytime I see them in the backyard now it kills me, it kills me that everything he aranged his work schedule and life for has been destroyed. I do know that I slowed down a little, that my time with my son and daughter has become more important to me. I miss you Paul, I wish I could have learned more about how you found such a great ballance in your life. JOHN BERGIN, 39, of New Dorp, N.Y., took advantage of his firefighter's schedule. He owned a tent rental business and was two weeks shy of finishing renovations on his own bar, a lifelong dream. Cantor Fitzgerald By all accounts, Craig Blass was living the high life, and he loved it. Bachelor parties in Las Vegas, summer weekends in the Hamptons, the social scene in the city. But there was one other thing he really liked to do that always seemed to surprise people. "He loved to go shopping with me," said Mr. Blass's mother, Barbara Blass. "My friends would say, `He still shops with you?' And I'd say, `Oh, yes.' " He splurged on himself, his mother and others because "he was living the good life, making good money and spending it because he made it," Mrs. Blass said. Mr. Blass, 27, worked as an institutional stock trader for Cantor Fitzgerald. He grew up in Greenlawn, on Long Island, and cheered for the New Jersey Devils hockey team. If he was not out at an athletic event or socializing, he could probably be found on his mother's couch, flipping through the sports channels with his younger brother and their father. Michael L. Bocchino kept a scrapbook of all the fires he fought and the people he helped rescue in his 22 years as a fireman. The first entry dealt with a Harlem apartment fire in June 1980 - when he was 24 - in which two firemen plunged to their deaths. The book's last chapter will be about the World Trade Center, his last fire. As family members compile material for it, his uncle, Leo Piro, a retired fireman, reminds people that his nephew's career started and ended with a disaster. For the last 12 years, Firefighter Bocchino, 45, worked as a chief's aide in Battalion 48 in Brooklyn, helping deploy units at fires. He was devoted to his elderly parents, Michael and Lucy, with whom he lived, and his work, family members said. During a memorial Mass on Oct. 13, his brother Tom talked of the scrapbook, and the people Firefighter Bocchino had saved since 1979. And he lamented the sudden end of his career. We have had the fortune to know Alan and his family for only a few years when he was on the same assignment as my husband in Argentina. I wish we had had more time with him. More than 700 people attended the weekend memorial service for Kelly Ann Booms in her parents' hometown of Blue Ash, Ohio. After the packed service, tables, chairs, and food--many gifts of food--appeared at the Booms' home. Hundreds of people followed. ''We were overwhelmed. There were people I didn't even know who were there,'' said Richard L. Booms Sr., Kelly Ann's father. ''It's just amazing what people are doing for us. You don't even ask--things you don't even think of--they're just done.'' Booms, a 24-year-old employee of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Boston, was aboard American Airlines Flight 11, bound for California on a four-week assignment in Long Beach.. As the community rallied around the Booms family into the evening, friends from Kelly Ann's childhood in Michigan and high school years in Australia remembered her as vivacious, strong-willed and caring. At her parents' home, the procession of well-wishers didn't end until after midnight. Kelly was on a last-minute business trip to Los Angeles. Here was Richard E. Bosco's typical morning: He would wake about 6:30 and hop in the shower. He would be joined by Abby, his 2-year-old daughter, who had recently decided that showering with dad was a fun way to start her day. After shower time, she would stand on a stool beside him as he lathered up. With her toy razor blade, they shaved side by side, chatting away. Mr. Bosco taught his son, Richie, 3 1/2, how to tackle. Then he brought him inside for a glass of strawberry milk. Mr. Bosco grew up in Suffern, N.Y., where he met his wife, Traci. They started dating when she was 17. "He just seemed genuine, like I could trust him right away," she recalled. "I just felt comfortable." They married in 1995, and Mrs. Bosco describes him as a sweet, sweet dream of a husband: he lavished her with attention and compliments. He did not wait to be asked to do the dishes, take out the garbage or throw in a load of laundry. "We never fought," she said. "It was total teamwork." A citizen soldier and former member of the Seminole Battalion 2-124 Infantry , Florida Army National Guard. SGT Bowman was the battalions Unit Ministry Team NCO. On 9/11 he called his wife and told her of the horrific incident. She asked him "please get out of the buidling" SGT Bowman replied; " you know I can't leave these people here, I have to help". I am in 7th grade and go to Hastings Middle School. On Veterins Day our shchool took the day to remeber all that has happened. We were sent to a certin class room where we would learn more a certin event that hd happened through out history. Then at the end all the class would get together and we would disscuse what we had learned.I was sent to a room and there we disscused Septermber 11th. We were allowed to speek freely about what we though about it and if we had questions we could ask the class to see if they new. We later decide to make something that would represent the victioms of september 11th. So we decided to make a colage of the American Flag and we would write some of the victimes names on the flag. One of the names that I wrote on the flag was Shawn Edward Bowman. His name was in the newspaper and a breif summray about him. I was deeply touched at how such a nice person he seemed to be. So I felt that I should honner him in some way. So I got a merrci band with his name on it and I am proud to where it and I have never taken it off so that never a day goes by that I do not reconize or heros and great people of America. I purchased a bracelet that was made o honor each of you heros that left us six months ago in the WTC. Each band has a name of one fire fighter. Mine has the name of David Arce. I am sure you are with him right now. I thought for some reason that I would find out some information on his life so that I couldhonor his memory by telling his srory. He arrived at the Brooklyn firehouse in time, however, to race with Engine Co. 201 to the burning towers of the World Trade Center. In a search for survivors, he and three other company members entered the South Tower 10 minutes before it collapsed upon them. "I wish I could give more details - we just don't know what happened to them," said company captain Luke Lynch. He described Buck as "a great firefighter." "I don't know a person who loved his job as much Greg did. He always had a smile on his face," said his father, Ernie. Buck, 37, was also a licensed nurse, having graduated from Staten Island University training at the top of his class six years ago, his father said. Two weeks after graduation he was called to the New York City Fire Department. He did equally well in his fire department exam, "scoring 100," his father said. "He was part of an elite class." Born in Brooklyn, Buck graduated from Xaverian High School there and attended college for two years. He and his wife, Katherine, were married two years ago and lived on Staten Island. Dennis was a big man, 6 feet, 210 pounds, with an athletic build. He had been a star lacrosse player at Lynbrook High School and graduated from the University of Maryland, which he attended on a full lacrosse scholarship. "He still walks like he's carrying a lacrosse stick," said his wife, Cathleen, speaking of him in the present tense, although she had just come from making funeral arrangements. He was 38, a bond broker at Cantor Fitzgerald, the father of three girls ranging in age from 22 months to 6 years. A memory his wife holds dear is the massive Mr. Buckley taking his three girls, with their three pink Barbie doll towels, to the swim club. His eldest daughter, Mary Kate, had her sixth birthday 12 days after the attack, and Mrs. Buckley decided to go on with the party. "She's 6," Mrs. Buckley said. Indeed, he'd hoped that his wife, Sheri, would accompany him to Los Angeles so they could attend a baseball game, but he couldn't get seats that were worth the trouble. He had originally scheduled a later flight but flew home earlier to be with his family. Kathleen A. Burns was born in Staten Island, where she lived with her parents for most of her life, in a nice home in a quiet, middle-class neighborhood. If the upstairs light was on, Ms. Burns, 48, was probably reading a book. She never took work home. "Work was work and home was home," said her mother, Eunice. Still, Ms. Burns climbed high in the corporate world, to the upper floors of the World Trade Center, where she was a vice president with the Fiduciary Trust International. She was good to her parents, they said. The three watched television together in the evenings and the women went shopping. "She liked high-end things like Ann Taylor," her mother said. Of course her life was more than work and home and shopping, her mother said. Life had just begun to get sweet for Milton Bustillo. In February, he and the love of his life, Laura Spordone, had a baby girl. In July, the couple married and began searching and saving for a home. Mr. Bustillo, an avid baker, set aside every penny from his job as a computer network operator at Cantor Fitzgerald. He was even planning to market his own line of cookies and cakes over the Internet. All the planning paid off, it seemed, when the couple finally found their dream house in Toms River, N.J. But one week before the house was to be theirs, the World Trade Center was destroyed. Mr. Bustillo, 37, disappeared. "Everything was just beginning for him," said Mr. Bustillo's younger brother, Gilberto. "He was so determined to do things right. He took his time starting a family and buying a home. He wanted to be happy." This week, a few days after his daughter, Alessandra, was baptized, Mr. Bustillo's body was found by rescuers at ground zero, and identified by his wedding ring.
