This day began as I pinned my Rolling Requiem badge on…the name was David LaForge. I thought of him as I sang, and prayed that his loved ones would feel comforted by the thoughts and prayers of so many around the world. Thank you, David, for sacrificing your life for others on that terrible day. You will never be forgotten.

david, let me introduce myself. i am det. sgt. doug jean of the calcasieu parish sheriff's office down here in louisiana. i know that your family misses you very muchbut let it be known you did not die in vain. you gave the ultimate price , your life, for people you did not know. for all the folks that read this can you tell me that you would have done the same thing. lots of you say , yes i would, but some would hesitate. david is not one that would hesitate. it was in his heart that he performed his duty that fateful day in our lives. i remember as i was placed on alert here in my town and was just watching all the hero's on television doing their jobs without worrying about their own lives. this day will ever be remembered when so many good people came together and helped someone. it is my honor to say thankyou and even if i have never met you i will miss you my brother. rest in peace and may the good lord hold you in the palm of his hands det. sgt. doug jean - submitted: 9/11/2007 11:21:10 AM

Thomas Langone was there because he cared. In addition to being a member of NYPD's Emergency Services Unit, he was a Chief (for the second time) of the Roslyn Rescue Fire Company (Volunteer), a Deputy Chief Instructor at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy, an EMT Instructor at North Shore University Hospital and a per-diem EMT at Jamaica Hospital. Michele B. Lanza   36 Tottenville, NY United States
I don't know Michele but I watched the HBO special last night on her and her family. The family reminds me of my own- so close. I cried so much when Nicholas' dad told him his mom passed away- I actually cried SO much! He is so adorable and so intelligent. I actually cried myself to sleep. I am 26 yrs old- I don't have any children but my sister (who is single) is so close to her 5 yr old son- Michele and Nicholas reminded me of them. I couldn't imagine what he would do without her. I hope the family is doing well- and my thoughts and prayers are with you all! It was a real touching story...If you want to e-mail me just to talk about it: snucee@hotmail.com. I would like to know how you all are doing. God Bless. - submitted: 5/13/2002 8:41:17 PM

Chris is missed and loved by many. We will never forget his laughter and bright smile. He was the greatest brother anyone could ask for. I will miss our weekend visits where he woud push me around like we were little kids. God he was strong! People would giggle when I would stand next to him because he would tower over me with his height (being that I'm his twin sister). Chris was the most down to earth human being. He would have made a wonderful husband and uncle.

Chris we miss and love you very much. I will cherish you and keep you in my heart forever.

Ahhh, what to say. I miss you so much. I still am not able to get past losing you. You're too good a person to lose. It used to be that the thought of you brought laughter and a smile to my face...because you were always up to something, instagating something. However, now the thought of you always brings tears. You were always a bright light in any room. I miss you, I miss you, I miss you. It's just not fair. Had I known this site was here earlier, I would have written earlier. Your family is so strong and I can't imagine their pain. My heart will always go out to them and you. LOVE YOU and them always, your East Coast sister Laurie - submitted: 8/8/2006 8:15:20 PM

When me and Chris were freshman on the high school football team we both suffered broken legs and couldn't play. During football practice even though I couldn't play I was intent on learning all I could. Chris was intent on having crutch/sword fights with me. That was the kid in Chris and you could never take that from him. That is why he will live forever in our hearts. We all miss you Chris. Jerk Kid Comics is my all time favorite cartoon.

Hi Janis,
I just wanted to write and say HI. Your sister and nieces are doing a great job with the golf outing to benefit the MSPCA in your honor. This is the 2nd year it's happening, but unfortunately, I will not be able to attend. The golf outing is a great way to honor you and to also benefit a great cause. You adored your dogs like they were your own children and I can't think of a better way to honor you. God Speed. Colleen - submitted: 8/29/2003 4:23:34 PM

I will hope that your sister Linda will see this. I just saw Natalie profiled on Larry King with John Walsh on the second anniversary of that horrible day. The fact that she had a letter for you "just in case" regarding her dogs, etc. was really something. I am so very sorry that you lost your beloved sister, Linda. May you have some measure of peace knowing that many of us still think of those lost and will NEVER forget what was done to them. D. Gonzalez 9/11/2003 - submitted: 9/11/2003 6:39:37 PM

"Make this a sweet story," Ira Lassman said the other day, "about one little kernel of a human being whose life will be sorely missed." He was talking about his son Nicholas, who worked for the eSpeed unit of Cantor Fitzgerald, and was 28 years old. Nicholas's life had been like a sailboat, catching the right breeze here and there, and always being led to a happy situation. He had been a golf pro at clubs in Florida and New York before teaching himself computer programming. That turned into a temporary job at Morgan Stanley, and then a full-time role at eSpeed. In between, he learned Russian and German, and the guitar, all on his own. He lived in an apartment in Cliffside Park, N.J., and loved his job, where his boss, Abul Chowdhury, was also his best friend. "He was bright beyond his years," his father said. "He had a charming smile and a quick wit. People flocked to him." At a memorial held for him last month, the 400 mourners included a row of caddies from the Alpine Country Club, where his parents were members and where he had once worked as a caddy. "He never hung out with the members," Mr. Lassman remembered. "He always hung out with the caddies." (nytimes.com) - submitted: 10/31/2001 11:11:04 PM

I'm not here to mourn the death, but celebrate the life of my dear friend Stu. We had some classic fights back at DLJ, mythic, but always ended those rough days sharing a pint or six. Bar none, his was the best memorial service EVER. PERIOD. Top floor of the Puck Building, sushi bar, cigars, Cheeze Wiz, hand-rolled cigars, open bar, and a DJ - suffice it to say, LEGENDARY. You would have had it no other way. - submitted: 9/17/2005 11:32:49 PM

Edward Lehman loved to run. He would run in the morning. He would run in the evening. He would run on the weekends, sometimes for three and a half hours. He belonged to a running club, and anytime there was a benefit run, he would be there. He especially liked to run for causes in and around Glen Cove, N.Y., where he lived. He ran for the local hospital. He ran for the local orphanage. He ran. The funny thing was, the running started out as the idea of his wife, Joanne, who had done sprints back in school. A couple of years ago, she announced to him that she'd like to start running again on a regular basis. Long jogs, she discovered, were nothing like short sprints. "I stopped," she said. "But he tried it and kept it up. I guess you could say, he took it and ran with it." Mr. Lehman, 41, an assistant director in the risk management area at the Aon Corporation, really got into the fine points of the sport. He subscribed to running magazines. He bought books on running. He elaborated on his discoveries to his wife. "The man would just not stop talking about it," she said. "I'd tease him, `Ed, enough.' He'd talk about the pace for hills and all that. He'd talk of the technical things. I'd say, `Ed, layman terms, please.' " (nytimes.com) - submitted: 10/31/2001 9:45:53 PM

Oh, my god.
I'd downloaded a "They Might Be Giants" song, and it strongly reminded me of Eric. We'd been out of touch for years, and I decided to "google" his name.

What a shock to get the search results I did. And there's no doubt that this is the same Eric.

We were friends in the very early 90s. Eric took me out drinking on my 21st birthday, so I wouldn't be home when all my other friends assembled for a big surprise party. He was quick and smart, funny and witty and he loved life. I'm so sad.

Eric was a strong influence on my writing when I was in Highschool. We also collected comic books together.

I would always wait anxiously to read his articles that he would write in "The Rams Horn" , our school newspaper. He was one of the most sarcastic and hilarious writers ever. "You've seen them, you've heard them, they hang out in Hallways and scream "Metal Rules!" " - from an article entitled "Intelliensia and Beer". 1985?

I used to look up to Eric. One thing I remember is that he had a really heavy beard at an early age, and since I wanted to be like him as a Freshman at Clarkstown Highschool North, I would shave my (then) babyface, so I could have a five o clock shadow like Eric.
I still have that 5 o'clock shadow, and think of him anytime people comment on my facial fur.

When I heard he passed away, I was shocked, and pretty upset that I wouldn't have the chance to catch up one day.

Rest In Peace, Eric. I'm sure you will be missed.

Freunde, die wir nie erlebten

Ihr, die nie ich sah,
Nimmer menschlich sehe,
Seid mir nun so nah,
Wenn ich einsam gehe.

Was ich weiss, nicht wusste
Ueber euch, hab ich's versaeumt?
Ich's verfehlt?
Oder musste
Fern vergehn, was ich ertraeumt? -

Schenkte Gott die Kunst, das Wort
Ferner, Toter nachzulesen.

Ach wie heiss mich das beschlich:
Dann und dann und da und dort
Ist ein Herz wie meins gewesen,
Still fuer sich.

Troestliches Gefuehl: Es daechte
Spaeter wer so ueber mich. -
Keine aller Erdenmaechte,
Waer sie noch so uebermuetig,
Kann uns trennen,
Die wir Gleiche sind zu nennen.

Denn wir waren nie gesellt,
Weil der Gott uns weise, guetig
Fern vonander aufgestellt,
Wissend um die Welt.

About 4 years ago i was in high school and they told us that we can do a square in rememberance of someone who passed away because of this tradegy. I don't know why but today I wondered where was that square I made. Jorge although I have never met you or your family, I think for some reason we have. I mean common we share the same last name. And what is even weirder, I went to New Jersey this March for a banquet I had to attend due to my sorority. Jorge May you Rest in Peace. I know that you meant a lot to your family.

See them there, those five adult children at the Dave Matthews Band concert? The ones huddled together, mortified? And note that blissful, aging teenager next to them, about 55 actually, in khaki pants and Docksiders, blue eyes blazing as he jumps up and down, bellowing his request: " `Proudest Monkey'! `Proudest Monkey!' " By day, Jeff LeVeen of Plandome, N.Y., was a chieftain in the financial world, a partner at Cantor Fitzgerald, an Ivy Leaguer and the owner of two well-appointed homes and a golf handicap of 3. By night, he was a rock groupie who attended nearly a dozen Dave Matthews concerts a year. You allowed a father like that his nuttiness. He plunked down and listened to Phish because one son asked him to. He negotiated with his wife, Christine, about discipline, pleading for leniency. He swept up his bucketful of kids to take them fishing, clothes shopping, to N.B.A. games. He kept his privileged background and considerable achievements to himself, but boasted like crazy about the children. A happy man with a year-round tan, he would sing, "Now I am the proudest monkey you've ever seen!" - submitted: 10/31/2001 10:43:05 PM

Craig,

You were one of the few people at MKA that gave me the chance to be me. You respected me and were kind and friendly to me when it was not the "popular" thing to do. Your kindness NEVER went unnoticed and was always appreciated. Growing up, so many people found it easier to belittle me, than to smile or friendly. But you were never like that. You were not afraid to be different, to be yourself and to be thoughtful. The world is truly a better place because you were and are very much a part of it, through the impact you left on people such as myself and through so many people's hearts. Having been a volunteer firefighter for the last 11 years, with special training in search and resue, I volunteered for duty at Ground Zero but no more people from outside NYC were needed. I found out several days or maybe weeks later that you worked for Cantor. I was in shock and felt deeply sorry for your wife, baby and family. I cannot begin to imagine the sadness your family feels, however, I am sure that they are taking great comfort in knowing that you were admired and loved by so many.

May you rest in peace my friend, you will live forever in our hearts.

Today, September 11, 2002, on the first anniversary of 9/11, I was a part of Bakersfield High School's (California) remembrance of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Our entire school lined up, each person taking a name of one of the victims and gluing it to a "wall of remembrance". Your name, Nickie, was the name I drew. Your family and friends are in my prayers and thoughts on this day and for the year to come. God's blessings on you and our country.

Since the day we've met, since the day you left,
Not a moment goes by that I let my heart rest.
I've never met a man so respectful and beautiful as you. What shared was only for me and you.
The way we parted was so unfair, But now I understand what you couldn't bare.
We stop speaking cause I felt it was so unfair. Now I wish I could see you to tell you,
"No matter what I will always be there".
This pain I feel in my heart I just can't share.
I say this because "I loved you" but you just never gave me the chance to tell you.
Now I'm filled with regret, cause I will never know how much you cared,or what made you go away without telling me what we shared.
Our secret I hold dear to my heart. Thank you for some great times we've shared.
Kenny may god hold you in his wings and never let you go. Given the chance again I would've never let you go....

He wanted something else, something new, something more. Yes, he was a dreamer. Harold Lizcano liked working with numbers just fine. He was an accountant at Carr Futures. But at 31, newly married, he was thinking about a business of his own, something he could operate out of home once he began raising a family. He was already talking with his wife, Emily, about having children. He wanted a big family, maybe four kids, and a big house somewhere. He had never had that. His father left home when he was 5, and he never saw him again. He had no siblings. It was just him and his mother. "The latest thing he had on his mind was to open up a Web site," Mrs. Lizcano said. "His new idea was a site with classified ads for jobs and cars." On Monday night, Sept. 10, he stationed himself before his computer and spent the evening surfing the Internet researching his dream. He was getting excited. "I was less excited," Mrs. Lizcano said, "because I was watching Spanish soap operas and they're hard to compete with. He kept calling me in to look at something. I'd say, `Wait till the commercials.' " - submitted: 10/31/2001 11:06:44 PM
. . . . . . .

It's been a year and it seems like yesterday...

In remembering Harold, I can only think of good things to say. He was the man the your mom always spoke about marrying, that "knight in shining armor"! His wife, Emily was his counter balance and together they were "that perfect couple, made for eachother". I will never understand why such tragic things happen to people who don't deserve it.

That is why with this message, I wish to say that Harold will never be forgotten for he made his mark on this earth and in the memories and hearts of those who knew him.

Martin Lizzul wanted to be everyone's best friend. You could not force a nasty word out of him. "He was so easygoing," said his sister, Susan Lauria. "He never said a bad word about anyone. Even if he didn't like someone, he wouldn't say a bad word." Mr. Lizzul, 31, was an account executive for Kestrel Technology, a software company, and for months he had been spending the mornings - usually from 7:30 to 11 - at Cantor Fitzgerald, a client that was using Kestrel products. He had married Jean Lucido in June. His parents lived in Dix Hills, on Long Island. It wasn't often that either of his parents made it into Manhattan, where he lived. But on the Wednesday before the attack, his mother came into the city, and they had dinner with other friends and relatives. He walked his mother to her car. He walked off. For some reason, they both turned around toward each other at the same time. They looked into each others' eyes and said, "I love you." It was his practice to call his parents every Wednesday to see how they were. For some reason, he called on the following Monday, Sept. 10. - submitted: 10/31/2001 11:19:01 PM

In the days following your death I anguished a great deal. Today i still think of you daily. Your Mother misses you all so much. You and I were the two closest in distance in this huge family as far as distance goes but drifted apart as time went by. In your life that was cut short by hate, you gave so much love. I know that you see all thats has happened and love all as well. I know that you are (QRMS) all the time and probably setting up a speed track for god so things run smooth. Again I love ya Cuz

Joseph Lovero was the ultimate fire buff. He fell in love with firefighting as a child hanging out at the firehouse a few doors down from his family's house on Bergen Avenue in Jersey City. His brother and friends became firefighters; but a heart problem disqualified Mr. Lovero. So he joined the Jersey City Gong Club, a fire buffs' group, and turned up at every fire, often with the club's canteen, helping out the firefighters. Several years ago, the Jersey City Fire Department began hiring civilian dispatchers. Mr. Lovero, who had worked in construction and hoped for a cameo role in "The Sopranos," got one of the jobs. Late Tuesday, his family learned that he was in St. Vincent's Manhattan Hospital, where he later died. Asked why Mr. Lovero had been at the World Trade Center, his sister-in-law, Joan Lovero, said, "We're not certain. Because we didn't ourselves know that he was there." - submitted: 10/18/2001 10:28:25 PM

I saw a Larry King show featuring Gary's girlfriend Ann. Their story inspired me to go on with life. Love those close to me, and know how to forgive and accept. Gary seemed to love Ann very much and even through tough times when she was confused about getting married to him, he remained patient and loving. His last words were "I love you baby, Byb bye" and it just broke my heart. Gary's death made me realize that I don't appreciate my own boyfriend and others around me and it opened my eyes to the real important things in life. I will remember his story for the rest of my life, and wish strength to those who loved him the most! I'm sure he's in a better place right now! Thank you, Madina - submitted: 10/24/2001 11:18:19 AM

CeeCee, you and the other victims of 9/11 are gone but you will never be forgotten. September 11th is a day that will forever remain in the memory of every American citizen. Heaven must have needed a new group of angels. You and all the other victims made us realize that it is true that we fall down but we get up. And when we get up we are stronger than we ever were before. You made the ultimate sacrifice and for that we will forever be grateful. - submitted: 9/12/2002 10:46:53 AM

You will forever be on my heart and mind. I think you are so courageous and such an inspiration. I pray for your husband and family in finding the strength and courage to go on. According to Lisa Beamer in "Let's Roll" when the crew and passengers were running to the front to fight the terrorists you were telling your husband, "They're doing it! They're doing it!" I can hear you and I am moved to tears because you all fought so hard. You fought to save your crew and your passengers and those on the ground. God Bless you and I will never forget! - submitted: 3/14/2003 5:59:34 PM

Dear Sean,
Our paths crossed a few years ago when you we were both living in Battery Park City and I was working on the 106th floor of WTC. You were working for Prebon Yamane at that time. We dated for a few months and I often remembered our times together with fond memories. During the memorial service of this first year anniversary I was so saddened to see that it was you who perished in the WTC. You were a wonderful person that I will never forget. Your life was taken too early and I pray for your family. God Bless You. - submitted: 9/11/2002 8:15:04 AM

Some people come into our lives & go quickly. They awaken us to new understanding with the whisper of their wisdom. They make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. Patrick, you have done that for me! To have a friendship for over 25 years is something I will never forget. You were always loved by everyone and will be missed each and every day, BUT YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. Good friends are a lifetime of shared memories and you have given me alot to remember! I will remember you always! Dawn Forbes - submitted: 11/5/2001 10:00:32 PM

The Firemans Prayer.. When I am called to duty, God wherever flames may rage, give me strength to save some life whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late, or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout, and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me, to guard my every neighbor and protect his property. And if according to my fate, Iam to lose my life, please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife. Thank you Pat, and all the other heros that died saving others on Sept. 11th 2001. We were friends for a long time "very special friends actually" as you wrote in my high school year book. We shared a lot of memories and a lot of good times. For years you were a football player and I was a cheerleader. We spent a lot of Saturday nights at football parties and plenty of other nights just partying and having fun. Every moment we shared was special, including our walks home from school. Some said we looked like brother and sister and our friendship at times felt that way. Unfortunately, we drifted after high school but every time I saw you thereafter, it was like we never drifted apart. We would always laugh and talk about old times. You were and still are a very special person in my heart and I will miss you dearly. May god bless your son, your wife and your family.
