I attend Hartwick College, the same college that Tim gradutated from. We had a memorial for him during our last two basketball games and his children, wife, and extended family were all there. I have never seen a turn out for an event as I did that night. My prayers and thoughts are with Tim and all of the victims families. We can never forget but we can rebuilt with our thoughts on our lost ones.

With deep sorrow, we mourn the passing of our dear Diana, who was taken from us tragically in the attack on the WTC on September 11, 2001. Beloved and devoted wife of Bill, devoted and caring mother to Amanda Rose O'Connor. Cherished daughter of Maria and the late Joaquin Vega. Truly loved as a daughter by Marion and Michael O'Connor. Loving sister to all of her siblings and their spouses. Dearly loved sister-in-law to Debbie, Rosemary, Lisa and Michael O'Connor. Adored aunt of many nieces and nephews. Managing Director and devoted employee of Sandler O'Neill Partners. Diana strived to live the word of God. She was a gentle and humble spirit, a peacemaker, and generous to a fault. She approached every day with courage and determination. She acted quietly & ardently to alleviate others' pain. She gave graciously & she asked for nothing in return. She was a gift from God. It was a privilege to know and to be loved by our precious Diana. Rest in Peace - submitted: 10/18/2001 9:32:02 PM

Hi Seamus, We named a Burmese kitten after you after visiting the 9/11 memorial nearly 2 years ago, I use to hate cats but for no reason I care for the little life that has taken me over ( I am 84 and have mobility issues). He like you is a carer of people as he dictates when I should get up or go to bed ,should I not obey he screeches like an Irish Banshee My wife tells me he is only a cat ,but I tell her not just a cat but Seamus L. Sean, One of the best things that a person can say about a man is that he was honest and kind and true to himself. Those things were always true in abundance about you. I will always remember you riding your bike through the neighborhood without a care in the world. Your kindness and empathy made this world a better place. I know that you are at peace for you have always touched the lives of those around you in a positive way, as has your beautiful and kind wife, Holly. Holly, and the O'Neill and Devine families: you are always in our thoughts and prayers. May God bless you and keep you.

Dear Kevin,
Near a misty stream in Ireland in the hollow of a tree live mystical, magical leprechauns who are clever as can be. With pointed ears, turned up toes and little coats of green, the leprechauns make their steps, trying hard to never be seen. Only those who really believe have seen these little elves. If you believe and look with your heart, you can see them yourself.
Everybody believes in the fantastic job you and your brothers did and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We are extremely proud of you and will never forget your unselfish efforts.
May Our Lord bless and watch over you until you are once again reunited with your loved ones.
with love and thanks,

Tim was a fellow classmate of mine at St. Nicholas of Tolentine in the Bronx, class of '51. He got a 100 on every Regents, but one (98). He couldn't convince the Brothers to let him take it over the next time it came around. He starred in our senior production of "Seven Keys to Baldpate". His physical condition precluded him from playing sports, but he did win the high jump in our class outing. The last time I actually saw him was on Fordham Road. I had just been discharged from the Army and Tim picked me and my duffle bag up in a bear hug outside the church. I'm sorry he's gone and I hope his family will take solace in his grand personality which he regularly displayed when we marched in the St. Patrick's Day parade. - submitted: 2/4/2002 12:20:27 PM

Hey Daddy,
We miss you so badly, Daddy!
Mommy's doing better, she got the new knees and she's walking a lot better but she's empty, Dad. She's full of piss & vinegar and always beautiful but you can tell, all the time, how she misses you. Tim is good. He works hard and tries to be the bad ass "man of the family" but I know he's just a little boy who's lost his Dad! Karen's wonderful, Daddy, you would've loved her (I'm sure you do.) She loves me and you know that's not always easy…despite our press…and I love her…I get all that stuff you use to try & tell me. As for me…I can't stop missing you, picking up the phone to call you, quoting you and just generally always broken by the fact I wasn't there…to take you out. I love you Daddy! I'll take care of everything. You just keep an eye out for us..OK!
XOOXOXOX

I live in Loyall, KY and our Fire Dept has the truck that Doug's memorial plaque is on. I would love to know more about this brave man whose life was taken on 9-11. To his family, my prayers. I feel a kinship to them even thou we are miles apart. Words are inadequate to express the horror of 9-11 or the gratitude to the hero's who lost their lives for trying to save another. Thank you I would love to hear from anyone who could tell me more about Doug.

He was my dad and even before sept 11th, he was my hero. And i have the strangest story about the weekend before Sept 11th, which would be my last with my daddy. The weekend before Sept. 11th, he took me driving in the cemetery, where he was teaching me how to drive. He figured i wouldn't be able to hurt anyone there because everyone is already dead.We heard someone playing bag pipes, so i went towards the sound and I found the man playing the bag pipes. I parked the car and we sat there listening to the man play. My dad looked at me and told me that when he passes he wanted bag pipes to be played at his funeral. I told him i would make sure but that wouldn't happen for a long time. That was the last weekend i spent with him because that was the same week Sept. 11th happened. I wish that i could have told him one more time that i loved him. Daddy, you will always be in my heart and not a day goes by that i don't think about you. I love you so much. I wish we had more time but the time we did share i loved every minute. I loved playing basketball, going to hockey games, and you coming to my volleyball games. I always wanted to score the most points to make you proud. I hope you know that i am your little girl now and forever. - submitted: 11/2/2005 7:40:33 PM

No, she did not sing the song. But Christine A. Olender was a Yankee Doodle sweetheart, born on the Fourth of July. It was her best day. But when she grew up, it was her worst - the only time when the petite, long-haired, effervescent former pompom girl, elected homecoming queen for Archbishop Weber High School, an all-boys Catholic school in her native Chicago, felt a little bit lonely. When she moved to the Upper West Side of New York, Miss Olender, 39, discovered that the Fourth was the day when New Yorkers fled town. Even the bakery was closed. So she and a friend who had the same birthday, Melissa Trumbull, would make sure to order Miss Olender's favorite birthday treat - strawberry shortcake - a day in advance. Then the two of them put candles on the cake, got a bottle of Champagne from Windows on the World, where Miss Olender was assistant to the general manager, and celebrated. Part of the ritual was a call from Miss Olender's mother, Stella. Don't worry about being left behind on your birthday, Miss Olender's mother would croon. "You're my little firecracker." But Miss Olender, known for being practical in all things except shoes, did not sing the George M. Cohan song. "Christine was way too cool for that," Ms. Trumbull said. - submitted: 10/31/2001 11:14:56 PM

Barbara Olson was not only a great lawyer and commentator..but also a great human being. She died trying to save the plane, trying to save people's lives. She knew that her life was about to end but she wasn't thinking about that, she was thinking about others..That is the kind of person that Barbara was, someone that cared about other people..someone that loved life, she embraced life. She always had a smile on her face..that is what I will always remember about her, her smile. To me, Barbara is a hero, a true American hero. When I think of her, I will not think of the brutal way that she was murdered, but of the way that she lived life and how she, with her act of bravery, might have saved others the fate that succomed her. To the parents, family, and friends of Betty Ong: Your beautiful Betty is an angel and a heroine. I live in the United Kingdom and only read about her today when I received news that another Chinese-American, Zack Zeng is to have a street named about him for his selfless heroism at Ground Zero. I am very proud to be a fellow Chinese. God bless you all. Hazel Kong - submitted: 9/4/2004 6:27:44 AM
. . . . . . .

I could come up with many reasons why Betty Ong should be highly recognized as the distinguished Hero. But due to limited space, the following circumstances clearly shows the High Honor Betty Ong(Bee) has earned. Betty Ong was on flight 11, the first to hit the WTC. Going above and beyond the call of duty, by the unprecedented burdensome role she was forced into in the last minutes of her life, a fate which she probably knew was inevitable, she took a leadership role by communicating vital information to Airport authorities via flight equipped phones, which helped in the saving of countless lives (millions) by grounding other aircraft. I was never fortunate or lucky enough to meet Betty, and I cant find words to describe how so Wonderful of a person she was. But from the lifestories I read about her, it just made me crumble in tears after hearing the loss of her life, the duress she was under in the final minutes of her life. She has always gone out of her way to help others, mainly elderly people, and she loved children. In fact she had began programs in trying to address "Child Obesity" a problem having plagued the nation for years. As a Flight Attendant on duty, Betty would accept little sleep even when she was offered breaks, she chose to continue working on board to ensure passengers were served and cared for, even while other flight attendants were sleeping. She was very energetic and full of smiles everyday. I am very sorrowful for flight attendants, because although their salary levels are comparable to non-skilled occupations, they have to be concerned with so many miscalculated life-threatening risks and variables. For one, if there is a mechanical problem and even if a plane recovers, the notion you can't walk away (like from a stalled car)is frightening. Now think of as like passengers averaging once a year. They have to do this almost everyday, something we take for granted. Flight Attendants are the real heroes!!! Especially Betty Ann Ong, who gave her life for us. My prayers are for Bee and her family. When Bee died a Large part of me died, and I'm not superstitious, but if I it was in my ability to have her back with us and her family, that would be my most greatest wish. I know now for sure that when Betty's life was lost, all the years since Sept 11, 2001 here has been empty and sad....We Miss you Bee.. - submitted: 10/22/2008 12:46:20 AM

Peter Ortale did not need occasions to send people presents. He just sent them when the desire percolated in him. That was often. One of five siblings, he regularly liked to pick out something that caught his fancy and mail it to each of the others, as well as his mother. In the spring, the relatives got a book, "A Short Guide to a Happy Life," by Anna Quindlen. Just before the summer, he sent them a box of chocolates with a note, "Have a happy summer." His mother was constantly getting flowers. "He did things without provocation, because he liked to," said his sister Mary Malitas. When not working or sending presents, Mr. Ortale, 37, a bond broker at Euro Brokers, was often playing lacrosse. He was one of the best players on his high school team in Philadelphia, and again at Duke University. After he graduated, he played in Australia, and once he began his career, he continued to play for various leagues on weekends. A few years ago, he took up cooking. He found it therapeutic. When friends and relatives visited him and his wife in SoHo, he would often turn out an elaborate meal, sometimes trying things not everyone might. Once he steamed a fish in the dishwasher. Sonia Ortiz was my mother. She never did anything to anybody and was always trying to help everyone else.
Sonia worked in windows in the world. She was loved by many. She worked there for years. She started working in the building three years after the towers were built.
My name is Victor Ortiz; and ever since September 11, I feel a big empty gap in my heart. Nothing is the same without my mom.
I only wish that justice is served and the animals responsible for these actions will pay.

I love you and miss you mom!!!!

Mike was a good buddy of mine in college, we had some great times together. We had lost contact years ago and it really saddened me when I learned his fate from 9/11. It was quite a surprise to see his picture in the paper one day, only to find he lost his life helping others. Back in college, he was a big Led Zepplin fan, and everytime I hear any song from The song remains the same, I will, as I have since 1980, think of mike and those days when life was so much better! - submitted: 5/14/2002 7:35:10 PM

On the first anniversary of the destruction of the Trade Center, a vendor I work with distributed flags amongst their clients each with the name of a 9/11 victim attached to it. My flag is dedicated to Isidro Ottenwalder and sought to find more about his life. Just being able to run a simple web search on the name, all I was able to find was that he was a 35 year-old cook employed in the Windows on The World restaurant. But even this simple information reminds me that the victims for the most part were not those whom we expect to fight our battles. The fire and rescue personel were prepared for the situation and met the odds with skill and bravery, but the man-in-the-street, civilians like Isidro Ottenwalder, need not have been called on for such a fate. I haven't been able to find a tribute for Isidro on the internet except as part of the honor roll from his union(HERE), but expect that there are family and friends who mourn his loss. In case anyone who knew Isidro ever finds this tribute, I'd like to express my sorrow for the loss of a man I didn't know, but may have bumped into on the street or shared a subway ride with when I lived in Manhattan years ago. I lost two other acquaitances in the tragedy (one a broker, one a fireman), and will add Isidro to my memories of them. - submitted: 9/11/2002 11:53:17 AM

Even though I didn't spend a lot time with cousin Isidro, I remember his sweet and friendly smile, he was easy to get along with, funny and very close to his family. He was one of 15 children of this very hard working Dominican family that moved to this country in the 80's with a lot of dreams, some of them died with Isidro. He was a good son, brother, and a husband for a short period of time. His smile will live in his family and friends' memories - submitted: 3/15/2007 5:55:38 AM
