Today in New Milford,CT we had our annual 9-11 memorial it was very nice. I wanted to let everyone know about a kindred moment. A picture framed in glass of a unit 343 member was on display on an easel. respects where paid prayers where stated and flowers where laid down on the memorial by approximately 100 people. just after the last flower was laid down by the last member in line of our fire department (approximately 10:00am) a HUGE gust of wind came and blew the picture off of the easel and smashed on the ground. It was an INSTANT goose bump moment and i had to share this. the dynamic of the moment and how and when it occurred proved to me that we are being watched over by our lost and fallen.
God bless and be safe and may the many who are lost never be forgotten. - submitted: 9/11/2009 8:35:49 AM

Keith, my last conversation with you, you said you were going to take the city test to work as a medic in the city. You said that if you applied at Roosevelt that you'd get to work with two of the coolest medics you knew, Gabe and I. I then went on to prove I wasn't that cool by leaving several key pieces of my lifepack on your bus.
I used to bust your chops a lot, and sometimes, it was funny to see how aggravated you'd get, but I always thought you were a great guy. I like to think I wouldn't tease you again, if I could…. But you were too good a friend not to.
I wish I knew you were still around, you were a good EMT, and would've been a great medic. Patsy and I miss you. God bless. -Tim Plagainos, EMT-P - submitted: 9/17/2002 2:49:41 PM

It was Saturday morning, and Cathy Faughnan was standing in the chilling wind beside a soccer field rooting for Juliet, her second child. Just a few weeks earlier, that had been the job of her husband, Christopher Faughnan. They met as undergraduates at the University of Colorado, where he worked as a security guard and she as a lifeguard. One day, she held up a piece of paper to him that said, "Cute Butt." He became a perfect dad. When Mr. Faughnan got home every weekday at 6:30 p.m. from his job as a trader at Cantor Fitzgerald, "he would get the kids all crazy," Mrs. Faughnan said. "They would jump around him, laughing and kissing him." He bought a minivan, and ferried the three children to art classes, gymnastic practice, ballet lessons and soccer games. The children are Siena, 7, Juliet, 5, and Liam, 3. One night, Liam asked his mother why Daddy could not come back, but a few days later, he told her that his father was a hero. "I don't know where he got that," Mrs. Faughnan said. "And he told me: `Mommy, I will take care of you. Daddy doesn't want you to be sad.' " Today would have been Mr. Faughnan's 38th birthday. After the trick-or-treating tonight, Mrs. Faughnan will ask the children to write their dad a message on a piece of paper, tie it to a balloon and let it fly. Shannon Fava   30 Bensonhurt, NY United States
World Trade Center - Cantor Fitzgerald Frank and Shannon Fava would have celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary on Monday, so Mr. Fava was in a reflective mood this week. He remembered the first time he saw his wife. She was walking into a bagel shop in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. She was 18, and he was shy. "I had seen her once or twice before, and I just had to talk to her," Mr. Fava said. "I'm a shy guy, but we started talking and just clicked." What he thought might have been a fling turned into "my first true love," he said. "I watched her grow into a woman." The woman Shannon Fava became loved to hug their 3-year-old son, Joseph Anthony, rent movies and laugh. Mrs. Fava, 30, worked as an assistant broker for Cantor Fitzgerald and lived in Bensonhurt. Mr. Fava said he can almost still see his wife dancing around the house to whatever is on MTV. He thinks that might be because she called after the plane hit her tower and said, "Tell the baby I'll always be with him, and you." (nytimes.com) - submitted: 10/31/2001 9:44:29 PM

I rode with Frank on the long ride into the City on the Port Jervis Main Line train. We would depart from Otisville early in the AM. I would speak with Frank....not every day....only if our eyes met or if we sat near eachother...the conversations always centered around our kids...I have five and Frank had 4...He was very proud of his girls ! I met up with Frank a couple of times at the Father/Daughter dance at the Otisville school...we would do the Hokey-Pokey with the kids and just smile at our daughters having fun. I was on the same train as Frank that horrible day, I was directly under Tower 1...anyway.....Frank seemed to me to be a loving Dad that wanted the best for his girls. I hope his daughters always remember this. The fact that you had a Dad that loved you and was very, very proud of you ! He expected great things from you....so always remember to - study hard...never give up...always be kind. You have a smiling great Angel in Heaven watching over you...he is smiling because he is proud and now able to always protect you and watch over you forever...... - submitted: 9/30/2002 10:40:52 AM

SEAN used to be teased because no matter where he travelled in the world he always rang his mother and father every day.
However, he didn't get the opportunity to ring them on September 11 last when a plane crashed into the first tower of New York's World Trade Centre where Sean had been working on the 93rd floor.
Bronx-born Sean went to school in Terenure in south Dublin when his family returned to live in Rathfarnham in the 1970s.
They went back to New York where Sean became a stockbroker. He was assistant vice-president of his company by the time he died.
Sean was known for his love of Irish history and travelling around Europe where he sought out small villages away from the tourist routes.

From the Irish Independent Oct 2001
Sean was a wonderful, charismatic, intelligent guy, I hope his Irish eyes continue to smile. He is missed so much by all, both in NY and Ireland

Lee was a real class act, and real great person to know. He was assigned to Engine 235 in Brooklyn, as well as Tower Ladder 1 in Wantagh. Nobody in town played the bagpipes better than he did. And boy oh boy was he a great artist. A few nights before the attacks, he was hanging out in the firehouse as usual just before going to the fire service academy. There was never a firehouse football game that he wasn't involved in. He was always around and responding to questions with a quick "No problem, bro." We all picked up on that pretty quick. Lee, the whole town will miss you, the city will miss you, the world will miss you. God bless your wonderful soul, and may God comfort your family in this time of worldwide tragedy. May you forever rest in peace with the true heroes of this lifetime. I know you are looking down upon us with a great big Irish smile on your face. God Bless You, Lee. We'll miss you.

In 2015 I made a visit to the 911 Memorial. Arriving, I walked up to the reflecting pool and knew exactly what I would do. I was going to pick a spot and take note of the first name I saw. Yes, it was Kristen. I took a cell phone photo of her name, said a prayer and then got on line for the memorial. Getting home I found little on Kristen - but did find that she was a single mother that would meet her mom and child when she arrived off of the subway after work. I wanted to contribute to a scholarship fund for her child or something of the like but could not find any. I check from time to time and can only hope her family and daughter are doing well. I will always keep Kristen and her family in my prayers so they are never forgotten! - submitted: 6/17/2016 6:07:29 PM

I drew Carol Flyzik's name and will never forget her name or that she lived.I send my greatest condolences to Carol and to all the victims of this tragedy. The first time I heard Carol Flyzik's name was when a police dispatcher in a small New Hampshire town told me she was one of the victime of Flight 11. I'm a news reporter New Hampshire's statewide newspaper, The Union Leader, and as the story of that dreadful day began to unfold, I was among the reporters who had to find the stories of local victims. I found Carol. While I never knew her, through my reporting I learned just how special she was. She was someone who was always gave of herself, and some of her family felt that Carol would have tried to console other passengers as they faced their final moments aboard American Airlines Flight 11. Sept. 11 was one of the most difficult days of my reporting career, even though I was many miles away from Ground Zero. Interviewing the families of victims in such a tragedy is the toughest part of a news reporter's job. Reporters aren't supposed to cry, but I did. I left an interview with Carol's brother and sister-in-law, and on the drive home I just cried and cried. I felt like I now knew Carol, and I had just lost a close friend.
As difficult as the interview was, I felt better when the story was done. Sometimes reporters forget that in times like these, our job is to give readers a glimpse into the lives of these innocent victims. It's important for people to know the thousands of victims who were lost in this senseless tragedy. We must never forget them.

Let's keep her spirit and the spirit of all that were lost that day by simply extending kindness to all that we meet today and every day until we all meet again with Carol and all of our loved ones. By Sean Gardiner September 29, 2001 Friends of Thomas "Tommy" Foley said he always lived life to the fullest. He was a rodeo rider. He skiied. He hunted. He was into sky diving. A former college football player, he kept himself in top shape and was good-looking enough to be named to People Magazine's sexiest men lists - not once but twice. And as one colleague said, "All the women loved Tommy." But the thing that Foley, 32, loved most was fighting fires and saving people. "He'd come out of a fire, filthy, coughing, covered in black soot and when he'd see you he'd have that big smile on his face and a big 'hello' for you," said John Coyle, a firefighter for Ladder Company 14. "He was a real good fireman. He just loved it." Foley, who worked for the Rescue 3 squad on East 176th Street in the Bronx, will be among the 14 firefighters who will have funerals or memorial services Saturday. His brother, Danny Foley, a firefighter who searched at Ground Zero for Tommy Foley, was with the group that found his remains. To his friends, it came as no surprise that Foley was among the men who charged into the Twin Towers after the terrorist attacks Sept. 11. "He'd be the guy leading the charge into the fire," one firefighter, who didn't want to give his name, said at Foley's wake in West Nyack Friday afternoon. "That's just the kind of guy Tommy was." In August 1999, Foley made headlines after being lowered by rope from the roof of a 12-story building in Manhattan to save two construction workers whose scaffolding had collapsed. But it was Foley's face, not his heroic feats, that earned him the most publicity. First he was named by People magazine as one of the sexiest "Men@Work." Then in June 2000, Foley landed at number 10 of People's list of the Top 100 eligible bachelors, along with the likes of heartthrobs George Clooney and Derek Jeter. "I used to love to break his chops about that all the time," Coyle said. "Everyone did. I was with my mom once when I saw him and I introduced her, 'Mom, this is one of the sexiest men alive. What do you think of that?' He blushed. He was always very bashful about it." Retired firefighter Mark Kwalwasser, 45, said Foley was "just a sweetheart of a kid who was very happy and loved the job. "If Tommy had to go, I think this is the way he would want it - to go out helping people." - submitted: 11/4/2001 3:24:15 AM

Hi, my children and I live in California, and saw Tom's pic in People magazine. My daughter and I thought (of course), that he was cute, and cut the picture out. Then, when we learned he had died in the Sept. 11 hell, my daughter thought of something she could do. So, for her history days project this year, she is doing it on Sept. 11, and Tom. She's only 12 but already has a heart of gold. I know we never got to meet him, but he will always be a hero in our eyes. Jill carne Feb.3, 2002 - submitted: 2/3/2002 1:28:46 PM

I only got the pleasure of briefly meeting FF Foley once when I was in NY. I'm a FF myself here in Baltimore and I was on a trip to see friends. They took me to a local house (Rescue 3) and he was there. When I heard the news that he had been lost along with so many other brothers and sisters I was heartbroken. Even in that one meeting a person could tell a lot about him. I did not have the pleasure of going up to help because we were told there were already sooo many other firefighters from around the country there. I still wear my bracelet that I got with Tom's name engraved in it to this day and for some reason I was thinking about 9/11 more today than I have in quite some time. He and many others are truly loved and missed. I still keep all those who lost loved ones in my prayers and continue to pray that this country will never forget what has occurred in our homeland and that they regain hope, love and chairity they had when this tragedy first happened.

Hello Mr.Tommy, I never had the distinct pleasure of meeting in person, only in spirit. But dear young man, every memorial website I have visited in your honor expresses the love and devotion your family and friends have for you! You sir, are the VERY definition of a model man, son, brother, uncle, friend, and HERO! It is my grave misfortune to not to have had the pleasure to enrich my life with a wonderful best friend like you on this journey. My heart cries for your family and friends you had to leave behind. I know in my Catholic Faith and in my heart that you are now a Soldier of Christ to be sent 100 fold wherever the Lord needs you to defend, rescue, and protect all of those in need.Your beautifully ascended soul is now free and guided by the infinite love you left behind and by the eternal love of all who mourn your passing. God bless you, dear son of the Foley family! We all here left behind owe you tremendously for your ultimate sacfrice of bravery. Your face is the beaming light of the morning sun. Earth cries out for its Heroes....you and the other 342 brave firefighters of this senseless masacre. Heaven praises you a HERO by the Choir of Angels. May I have the honor of shaking your hand at the Gates of Eternal Paradise if they allow me in? May God Bless and protect you, your family and multitude of friends. It has been the greatest pleasure of my life to assist your wonderful family on your memorial documentary. I pray all children everywhere will value the knowledge of your life's story and that you will be a lifelong role model to all. We mere mortals are indebted to you. Sincerely with the Greatest Respect, ~~~~~~Mark Wayne Gregory in Texas. (07-26-2011) - submitted: 7/27/2011 5:49:12 PM

My name is Peter Klann and Dave Fontana was my roomate in college at C.W.Post back in the 80's. I never expected to see or hear from Dave again, like so many people you lose touch with over the years, BUT i did always foster a genuine admiration for Dave. I may not have expected to meet him again, but i did remember him with a great fondness. I have many happy memories from that time, and Dave was one person i would never forget. We never got to be extremely close, but did not have to for him to impress me as he did. Dave was a great , great guy. extremely likable, very good humored, very nice & decent. Back then all i remember is being young & pretty much Crazy !!! Not that Dave was not the same, but he just had more tact & class about him, that always impressed me. I always felt like i knew a person of true & excellent character in Dave. Sometimes way after the fact i would ask lifegards at Jones Beach if they knew him. It was with real pride that i asked, knowing that if anyone did know Dave, they would know as i did what a great guy he was. I just always admired him. Always. Never got the opportunity to tell him. I hope he knew somehow. Dave was for me a special person & memory. Out of all that was going on then and all the many people all over the place,... I always remembered him with a sincere admiration & fondeness. I feel lucky to have known him, however briefly it may have been. He was one of the Good Guys. I wish all who had the same priviledge as I , in knowing him, all my best & sympathy. Please anyone who might have any information on his life after college , yo ontact me at peter304@optonline.net. I Will Never Forget You Dave! Peter Klann - submitted: 10/17/2001 11:07:34 AM

Today is the year marking the anniversary of 9-11 and in school we wore name tags/ stickers of those who died. When I received your name, I immediately thought "who was Del Rose Forbes-Cheatham?" When I got home, I went online and found out that you died 5 days before your birthday. I wanted to cry. When I told my mother about it, she also seemed upset. Just by wearing your name on my shirt reminded me that life is as precious as a pearl. RIP Diana D. (from. CT) - submitted: 9/11/2002 6:51:31 PM

The picnic was intended for Port Authority police officers assigned to the PATH system. Technically, Officer Donald Foreman was assigned to the Holland Tunnel, but he was welcome anyway. Donald Foreman was always welcome. He had spent 29 years with the Port Authority, working for many of those years as a captain's clerk, which meant he did a lot of the nuts-and-bolts administrative tasks for a superior. According to a plaque on a wall at the Holland Tunnel offices, he served 15 consecutive captains, according to his last, Robert Sbarra. "If he could work for 15 captains without anyone trying to remove him, he must have done his job extremely well." But Mr. Foreman, 53, had a full life outside, with a large extended family and volunteer duties that included running the youth sports program for his Roman Catholic parish, Immaculate Conception, on Staten Island. He was also a strict vegetarian, but that hardly kept him from that picnic, a hamburger-and-frankfurter feast on the Jersey Shore. "I do remember giving him French fries," recalled his companion, Cheryl Cooper-Foreman. "He loved French fries." And Ms. Cooper-Foreman and Captain Sbarra both remember this: Donald Foreman playing basketball with kids young enough to be his grandchildren. (nytimes.com) - submitted: 10/31/2001 10:52:40 PM

About the snake: Morty Frank smuggled it into the basement of the house in Lynbrook, on Long Island, and kept it there for three months without telling anyone, said his mother, Phyllis. "Until the day he said: `Guess what, Mom? We have a snake in the basement.' " She and her husband, Mel, would keep asking what kind it was, but all Morty would ever say was, "The kind you can make boots out of." He was sunny but always "a little mischievous," she added, and he did not much favor the name Morton. "When I took him to the pediatrician for the first time, the doctor said, `What a big name for a little boy,' " she recalled. "It was my father's name. But to everyone, he was Morty." Morty Frank and his wife of one year, Jessica, had returned from a wedding in California on the day before the attack. When Phyllis Frank watched the images of the plane hitting 1 World Trade Center ? where Mr. Frank worked at the institutional sales desk of Cantor Fitzgerald on the 104th floor ? "I knew instantly by the way it hit, and where it hit, well. . . ." She paused. "I knew that I was nowhere." - submitted: 10/18/2001 10:16:40 PM

A poem inspired by a man I never met, but respect greatly.

Special Angels

He was a gentle man
His smile was kind yet strong,
He stayed ready at a moments notice
In case danger came along.

This day was just like all the others
He joked with all his friends,
A perfect start to a perfect day
Never dreaming it would end.

Then came the call to go to work
So on the truck they sped,
A plane had struck a tower tall
And flames had quickly spread.

Once on the scene his men went in
To save those trapped within,
They brought out many hurt and scared
And then went back again.

Now something’s wrong, the building’s weak
It crumbles to the ground,
He knows his brothers are still inside
He returns until they’re found.

He searches quick, his task is hard
The dust, the smoke, no friends,
He turns to leave, the building shifts
And now he meets his end.

So many saved, so many lost
And for me it ends so sadly,
For you won’t miss him like I will
Cause this hero was my daddy.

Now I’m not sure why God took them away
My daddy and the others,
Unless He needed special angels
To protect their earthly brothers.

But I do...my thoughts and prayers go out to Lisa's family...your loved one will never be forgotten! sincerely, Brigitte L. Albuquerque 7/24/09 - submitted: 7/24/2009 4:46:09 PM

I too am an employee of SCE. From the first moment that I heard that one of my SCE family members had lost a loved one in the horrors of 9/11/01, I have never forgotten you Lisa. Every year I listen as they read the names of our lost loved ones and as the tears stream down my face, I remember you. The evil of this world may seek to distroy our present, our today, but they will never break our spirit. Lisa, you are loved and will never be forgotten. - submitted: 9/7/2011 2:02:04 PM

Peter,
I know there are so many other memorials for you out there, but this one needs at least one comment on what an amazing and giving person you were and how much we all miss you. Every time I look at your 2 girls, I see all the humor, compassion and zeal for life that defined you. I hope you can feel how often you are discussed and remembered.
The schoolies are just showing up in Nantucket Sound this week...I am going to take a 6 pack of Sierras to the beach and try to catch a few for you.We miss you…

I knew Paul in High School. We attended Pascack Valley High School in Hillsdale New Jersey together. It's been 20 years since I last saw him or spent time with him but I am still terribly saddened by the fate he met. I am thankful for the time I had to know Paul and I pray for his wife and children every day. We will look over them for you Paul. Peace. - submitted: 11/15/2001 6:47:55 AM

Hi
I am a 16 year old male from London, England. I read an article in a news paper today about this very man here. I was deeply saddened for the widow and her two sons. I am very sorry for Karletons parents as well, and I know how his mother must have felt when she had found out. I decided to write to say i am very sorry for you all, and that it was a huge tragedy.
Love From Chris in the UK

I did not know Karleton well, but I do remember him. Karleton graduated from Southern High School 2 years before I did. His family lived just a few minutes from mine. It was a huge shock to see the names scroll across the television screen the day after the attacks and realize that there was a name that I could put a face to. My thoughts and prayers are with his family on the anniversary of the day he was so cruelly taken from them. - submitted: 9/11/2009 10:40:41 AM
