To Alex. I saw a TV programme last night about that horrible day last year and I can't help but think about what happened to you in the final hour or so of your life. The last time we met at a Conference in Stratford on Avon. You were very proud of the job you had done for Aon in the USA and I was very jealous because you had managed to give up smoking since living in the US. I have thought about you a lot in the last year. You were a nice man Alex. Nobody ever had a bad word to say about you. Neither you nor your family deserved the way your life ended or the terrible aftermath of that tradgedy. God bless you mate, I think about you often.

On that day in September you showed the World.. Courage.. Honor.. Compassion..Before you became America's Hero.. you were mine.. I close my eyes and I see your smile.. in the silence I hear your laugh.. I feel the baby that I held in my arms.. the firm handshake of the Man that made my life a wonderful journey..Your name etched in stone in Memorials say that you were a Hero because you died trying to save lives.. I say that you were a Hero.. because you lived to save lives..

Joseph Michael Navas   44 Paramus, NJ United States
World Trade Center - police officer, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey - submitted: 10/3/2001 8:39:31 AM
. . . . . . .

JOSEPH NAVAS Making the Hours Count Given that the days Joseph Navas worked fluctuated - his schedule was four days on, two days off - and given that his overriding interest was doing things with his wife and three children, he had to improvise. That was O.K. He knew how to make hours count. If he was off on weekend days, it was easy. He might play ball with Joey, 9, or help coach his Little League team or his ice hockey team. He would take Jessica, 12, shopping, or watch her perform with her cheerleader squad. He might ride bikes with Justin, 3. When he was off on weekdays, school preoccupied the children, but he would make the most of the hours he had with them. He would drive them to school, or pick them up for lunch, or even bring them lunch. Mr. Navas, 44, was a Port Authority police officer, part of the emergency services unit, assigned to PATH. He worked out of Journal Square but was summoned to the World Trade Center after the attack. He was broadly trained. He had been to chemical identification school; he had learned how to deal with hazardous materials; he knew how to rappel; he was schooled in scuba diving. "He wanted his family to be safe," said his wife, Karen. "He wanted everybody to be safe. That was why he was a police officer." - submitted: 10/31/2001 9:39:31 PM
. . . . . . .

Joe Navas was a great, hard working, handsome, man He would spend hours playing or practicing ball with son,joey,9. He would alwats be ready to save somebody and on the days he had off he would sometimes climb the George Washington Brige for practice. When he was ready for a new 2001 baseball team,he was so happy to be a coachs with Bob Castro and Greg LaMarca. When summer came he would always ride bikes or practice baseball. He would always be on time for beautiful Jessaca,12. Then when sept 11 came our lives were changed without Joe. No more medals or great achrivments for Joe. A coup;e weeks before sept 11,he had just won an award.Joe will always be rememered as one of America's greatest heros. He will never leave our minds and please god bless him,his family, and little justin. - submitted: 6/1/2002 4:58:35 PM

I knew Joe as a kid playing baseball in Paramus. The night that the US began the airstrikes on Afghanistan after 9-11, when the first Tomahawk cruise missile was fired from the USS Princeton, I was able to have the fire control officer say "this one's for Joe Navas, you bas***ds". God bless you in heaven, Joe. - submitted: 2/9/2003 10:39:32 PM

I had the great pleasure of having Joe as my work partner before he became a PO. It did not surprise me to find out that Joe was helping to save people when that fateful moment came and WTC 2 collapsed.
Wherever I travel, I always tell of Joe being a humble and good man, husband, father, and friend.

“What though the radiance, which was once so bright,
Be now forever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind!”

We've never met but last night I sat in front of my computer studying the names of the 9-11 victims, all of whom were strangers to me, prayerfully asking one to speak to me. Ann was one of two who spoke to me in a very powerful way. I ordered and will proudly wear my bracelet bearing the name of Ann Nicole Nelson and pray for her soul as well as the family and friends she left behind.
Lamb of God, You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us and grant us Your peace. May the souls of all the dearly departed rest in God's peace. Amen.

Jody Tepedino Nichilo   39 Cantor-Fitzgerald, NY United States
Jody never wanted anyone to worry about her. She would smile and insist that everything was all right, even if it was not. When she was thrown from a horse as a teenager, she just walked away with a hurt shoulder. "She was walking crooked," said her older brother, Vincent Tepedino. "That was typical. She would do her thing, and make sure everyone else was O.K." She was a single mother raising a 13-year- old daughter, Jaclyn, in the same neighborhood in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where she had grown up. She worked as an executive assistant at Cantor Fitzgerald. Though she never asked for help herself, she was known for helping others. She volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program, and recruited her daughter, brother and mother as well. Last Thanksgiving, they delivered turkey dinners before sitting down to one themselves. "She would make everybody feel special," her brother said. - submitted: 10/18/2001 9:55:48 PM

I have been a friend of Kathy's brother, Jim, for more than a decade. He and I worked together in the news business in Washington, D.C. before I moved to Florida. He continues to work as a radio news anchor in Washington and found out his sister was killed while reporting the September 11th story. He has been a pillar of strength since this happened and has offered much comfort to his family while carrying on his professional duties. I admire him greatly. I try to offer him all the love and support I can to help him cope with the loss of his sister.

Martin, I am honored to have played Varsity Basketball with you back at North Hunterdon High (Clinton, New Jersey). Your smile, sense of humor, and charm always lit up the room. I hadn't seen you for almost two years until that magical Summer day in 2001, when I ran into you on the streets of Hoboken. You were coming home from work... I was coming back from a Yankee's game. We talked and caught up with old times. We laughed about the N. Hunterdon days. We bonded and talked of getting together soon. Another meeting between friends that would never be. Martin, I know that you are looking down on us with that big bright smile of yours. I send you all of my love and give you all of my thanks. You will always be remembered by the Jersey crew. And you will always have a place in all of our hearts. Be well. Your spirit will live forever. Love, Jason B. Ball www.JBallmusic.com - submitted: 9/12/2002 1:42:01 AM

Paul Nimbley had four daughters and a baby boy of his own, and as if that were not enough, he also adopted a squad of teenage basketball players. He recently bought a Ford Expedition just so he could cart more kids around. "He was not the kind of dad to leave his kids at home," said his wife, Cheri. Mr. Nimbley, 42, was a vice president at Cantor Fitzgerald, who doubled as a coach for the Hot Shots, a girls' basketball team in his hometown of Middletown, N.J. The players called him the "voice of reason." "If they had problems, Paul would be the one the kids listened to," Mrs. Nimbley said. The morning of the World Trade Center attack, Mr. Nimbley called home to check on his wife and kids, the way he always did. He has not called since then, and the Ford Expedition sits empty in the driveway. - submitted: 10/18/2001 10:01:00 PM

May thier souls rest in peace. - submitted: 9/11/2003 7:29:15 AM

Soichi Numata put in long hours at Fuji Bank, where he was a senior vice president. His office was on the 82nd floor of 2 World Trade Center, and his day usually began early and ended late. "He worked so hard," said his wife, Noriko. "But he spent the weekends with us." The 45-year-old Mr. Numata loved to play golf, and this summer, when their daughter Mayu, 14, was away at camp, he and his wife spent plenty of time on public and private courses near their home in Irvington, N.Y. A former ice hockey player for Keio University, Mr. Numata relished all kinds of sports. His favorite baseball team was the Yankees, but this year, he began rooting for Ichiro Suzuki, the Seattle Mariners pitching ace. He also made sure he and his family took in the arts, including the Metropolitan Opera and the ballet. The Numata family still owns a house in Tokyo, and Mr. Numata was planning to begin renovating it when he went back to Japan on home leave later this year. He expected to be transferred back to Tokyo before long, his wife said, after seven years in London and five years in New York. - submitted: 10/31/2001 11:10:14 PM
