I live in Battery Park City, with my window overlooking what was the Policemans Memorial , but is now for both Police and The Firefighters. As I was leaving my apartment, I stopped there like I always do, and I noticed that there were candles burning in the name of maybe 50 firefighters. But Lenny's was out. From the looks of it, someone tried to get it re-lit but couldn't. I started to walk away, but something called me back to try and get that candle re-lit. So I did. I didn't know Lenny, but I saw his picture on a memorial.
Rest in peace, Lenny. And thank you.

I would like to extend my condolences to the Ragalia family on the upcoming anniversary of Lenny's death. May God be with you all in your time of sorrow and may the love of Lenny always remain in your hearts. As long as you continue to embrace each other, you will never be alone. And a special prayer for his two beautiful Sons who I'm sure will grow to be strong, loving men like I heard his Father was. Finally to my little curly-girl, Colleen. There will always be a special place in my heart for you and you and your family will always be in my prayers.

May God bless you all!

I did not know any of the men and women killed in 9/11. I ran a small art gallery in Maryland. My friend, Barbara, put together artists who painted portraits of loved ones passed in the tragedy. I remember Lenny's portrait so well. He struck as the biggest, sweetest galoot. There he was every day, smiling out into the gallery, welcoming everyone. I spent a lot of time in the gallery soaking in the paintings, the faces, the lives of true men. What's that song from YaYa Sisterhood - "the world.... is/in love all around me" (?). I thought about all the love these guys had for people, life. I keep that in my heart with all the happiness coming out of those lives, those portraits. I carry that around inside everyday. - submitted: 9/11/2011 8:05:43 AM

Mike Ragusa was the face of 9/11 for me. My friend, Barbara, a painter, had friends make portraits of loved ones lost in the tragedy. I showed them in the gallery I ran in Maryland a year later. Mike's portrait was on the announcement. You just feel so bad because you can't do anything to make it better. But going in every day, looking at all the men - I learned a lot about firefighters. You can see what kind of men they were by their eyes, their smiles. Instead of sadness now, I take in my heart everyday - the love they had, the love they gave... to all, to the world. That exhibit was a seismic shift for me. And I cannot forget to mention - Mike's parents, aunt and uncle came to see the art show. It was such an honor for me to have you there. Your presence had made it easier, more personal, to understand the people who helped, rescued, and died saving their fellow man. You are beautiful, beautiful people. Thank you so much, Mr. & Mrs. Ragusa for touching my life. Michael is always remembered in our home - every day. I met Peter while working at Kidder, Peabody. Since we both lived in Staten Island, we often traveled to and from work together. This allowed us time to discuss a number of topics such as work, politics, fashion and family.

The topics of our discussion were of interest to us at the time we spoke about them, however, for most part they were meant to help us enjoy the trip to and from work. If you were to ask me what Peter said on each of the topics, I probably could give you a fair idea on most of them.

Work? Peter definitely feels he, as well as others, should take pride in the fulfillment of a responsibility.

Politics? Hmmm, I couldn't tell you whether he is a Democrat or a Republican. I know we discussed politics but can't recall what we said.

Fashion? I recall that he once claimed my tie did not match my shirt. I said, "Peter, what's to match? I wear white or pale blue shirts?" Quoting David Letterman, Peter said, "To match the shirt, a tie should have the of color of the shirt included in its color pattern." When I asked him if anyone told K-Mart about that, he looked at my shirt and tie, smiled and said, "evidently not." We both laughed.

Family? Now here I have a good sense of what Peter feels about his family. Do I remember exactly what he said? No, but I can recall how he spoke of his family. When Peter spoke of his family he reminded me of an athlete who steps out onto the playing field to hold his trophy high for all the world to see.

To me, family is what Peter is about. And for that reason, more than all the others together, I had come love and respect Peter.

Peter, you are a good man. Your friend, .... Tony Loscialo - submitted: 9/2/2002 10:30:53 PM

Hey Peter,

I am taking out a moment to tell you in writing that I think of you often. I come to this site a multitude of times a year; have emailed scores of friends and acquaintances a copy of the tribute I wrote to you in this site; and when a friends discussing the 911 tragedy asked if anyone I knew was a victim, I tell them "I lost my friend Peter."

I have been told that the passage of time heals all. If this is true, then I need more time to pass. As I am still angry, I still want revenge and I still cannot talk about you without crying.

Peter you are a good man. Your friend, Anthony R Loscialo - submitted: 3/1/2005 9:44:25 AM

Harry was a schoolmate of mine. We went to St. Anthony's Parochial school in lower Manhattan and then we both went to Brooklyn Tech. I haven't seen or spoken to him in 20 years. It was a shock when I saw his picture in the New York Times. He and his brother Mark were always nice, loyal bright guys. This is truly a shame.

My baby was only 6 weeks when the towers came down and I am grateful beyond expression that his father my husband was one of those who came out of the building that day, and I just want to tell you I saw your name and how young you were and I am heartbroken over the loss of your precious life. - submitted: 8/28/2002 8:43:13 PM

I never knew Lukas Rambousek, but I do know his grandfather Ota - a man of rare heroism indeed, who escaped from Communist Czechoslovakia only to return to collect intelligence for the CIA, and was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Leopoldov prison, one of the worst jails in the Soviet satellite states.

Both, in their own ways, fought against the evil of totalitarian nihilism - but I cannot but think of how far more tragic Lukas's fate was, 103 floors above the ground, with absolutely no hope of escape.

And it still haunts me - if only Lukas had been on one of those planes, perhaps it might have turned out differently. - submitted: 9/18/2003 11:04:09 AM

Dnes má svátek můj dědeček Rostislav. Bojoval proti Hitlerovi, prošel mučírnami gestapa a přežil nakonec zmrzačený a slepý dva koncentrační tábory. I když mne neznáš a nic o mně nevíš. To Harry and Family:
Today is the anniversary of 9/11 and I learned only today of Harry's passing. I was watching the memorial coverage on TV when I saw Harry's name cross the screen. I didn't want to believe it was the Harry Ramos I knew as a trader in 1985, but when I did an internet search I saw the picture of Harry with Wife and young child and I knew right away it was, in fact, THE Harry Ramos I knew.

I was a Broker who worked with Harry, who was a trader at 44 Wall Street some 17 years ago.

Wall Street is a place where names and faces come and go.. BUT.. Harry was very different than most anyone else I've known on Wall Street over the last 20 years... a great guy... a kind guy... VERY unusual and highly memorable especially when compared to his fellow traders.

I was very upset when I realized Harry was one of those lost on 9/11. I am deeply saddened for Harry and his family.

Having read what so many others have had to say about Harry on the Internet today I also came to realize he was far more special than I had known. I send my deepest and heartfelt condolences to his Wife and family and wish you all only the best.

I had not forgotten him after all these years even before the events of last year. I will surely NEVER forget him now!

With warm regards,
Warren Roche - submitted: 9/11/2002 9:26:58 PM

It was Sept. 11, 2002 when I saw the name Harry Ramos scroll across my tv screen. Could this indeed be my friend and fellow worker at Lehman Bros. Kuhn Loeb back in the early 80's? Upon futher internet searching I discover this was indeed him. When I learned of his selfless act of kindness toward a total stranger in the crisis of 9/11 I was not suprized. Harry was most definitley that kind of man. He was always making people feel better, and was the life of the party when I knew him some twenty years ago. I would like to express my condolences to Harry's family and to all who knew him. I now stand in awe of Harry Ramos, for to me, he is now a saint for all of us to look up to. God Bless you Harry Ramos. Your old friend Brian Madden - submitted: 9/14/2002 12:27:53 PM

It's been four years since you were taken from your family and friends. Your memory lives on through your brave wife, children, mother and family. You are not only an incredible person but a hero for your efforts on that tragic day. I thank god everyday for allowing me to meet such an incredible man. You are missed so much by those who love and knew you. Your smile and kind heart will live on. God Bless you. Till we all meet again in heaven where we will all have eternal life. - submitted: 8/31/2005 10:12:59 AM

It's been 5 years since that fatefully day and a day doesn't go by that I don't think of the courage and selflessness that you displayed that day. Giving your life to help a stranger goes well beyond heroic, you are missed and my only hope is that I honor your memory and all those who perished that day by doing as much good as I possibly can with my second chance . I look forward to seeing you on the other side whenever that day may be. Thank you Harry for giving me the opportunity to see you in action, when we all kept walking you stopped and made the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless

You were the best sister a guy could have. It's hard to believe it almost two years since 9/11/01! The children are doing good, and I try to visit as often as I can. I visit Arlington and see you often. I wish you were still here to talk to, but I know you are with us every day, in our hearts. I will still be the best uncle to the kids and a good friend to John. About Adams Angels:
Adam’s Angels is a program that was started in memory of a single firefighter who became an angel on September 11th. He was a practical joker who loved children.

The goal of Adam’s Angels is: To provide children with an angel here on earth.

As an angel, you can choose to support a child (or two, three or ten) who lost a parent on 9/11. You will get to send holiday & birthday presents, cards, notes, letters, etc this year & for as long as you chose to remain the child(ren)’s angel. The frequency of mail is determined by you, as there is no minimum or maximum required to be one of Adam’s Angels.

Jonathan was a dear friend, he was so dependable and steady, as they say, still waters run deep. Jonathan had loaned us his dining room table, for several years, in fact, we had it in our apartment in Brooklyn, and after his memorial service we returned it to his family. I keep thinking about this darn table, I don't know why, I'm driving down the highway and I just burst into tears thinking about this table. Now this table was a table he and his family ate at when he was growing up and we gave it back to his sister for her family to use. This table is so stuck in my mind, maybe its like symbolic of how Jonathan treated us just like his family, even if we might be annoying him, he was always there for us. I think he truly treated his friends like brothers and sisters. - submitted: 8/28/2002 8:54:20 PM

I knew Kevin as early on as I can remember. We entered kindergarden together at the Eldorado School in Spring Valley, New York. Kevin was a rugged, tough little boy that apparently grew into a rugged and tough, but also compassionate, loving, and great hero of this great country. I will never forget him, and neither should America.

State University of New York @ Oneonta

My favorite memory of Kevin shows just what kind of guy he was: While we were pledging the fraternity in which he was already a brother, he told our pledge class to come over one Sunday. Instead of treating us like pledges, he just wanted to sit around and get to know us as equals; we were treated like we were already brothers, not pledges. I will always remember him as being a kind, friendly, outgoing guy. I was shocked to learn of his passing, but the fact that he gave his life in an attempt to save others did not surprise me in the least.

To be honest I had never heard or known of Rick Rescorla until I read a book. It was called "We were soldiers once....and young." In it, it tells of a young Richard leading his men into a desperate fight against unsurmountable odds on the bloody battlefield of the Ia Drang Valley in Vietnam. His life reads like a John Wayne movie. One of action, adventure and sacrifice. Always placing others needs before his own. The last time anyone saw Rick he was doing what only comes naturally to a hero. Leading others away from danger and sacrificing himself. Dear Rick, you were a hero even before September 11th. Now your spirit soars with the eagles and stands along side those who fell with you. You have touched so many and in different ways. God Bless and thank you, farewell. - submitted: 3/11/2002 5:32:25 AM

HERO

A little clutch of veterans share a table in a bar,
There's a guy off in the corner coaxing tunes from his guitar.
They watch the Hudson River as it rolls towards the bend
And they talk of Rick Rescorla as a comrade and a friend.

While out across the water, many ocean-miles away
Within a Cornish Tavern by a sandy Cornish Bay,
Another group are gathered, reminiscing as a clan,
And their thoughts are all of Tammy, from the schoolboy to the man.

And every head among them has a picture in its mind
Which time and place and memory have captured and consigned,
Now the pictures weld together until only one remains,
Of a sturdy, selfless hero guiding others from the flames.

It's a picture which unites them in their glory and their grief,
More eloquent than eulogies, confirming their belief
That theirs had been a privilege to saunter at his side
And in the way he'd lived his life had Rick Rescorla died.

The veterans recalled him in the killing fields of war
As a man whose potent presence would inspire and reassure,
Just one among his brothers when the skies began to fall,
Yet one whom they regarded as a father to them all.

And now their eyes will moisten at the mention of his name
And the sources and the substance of the legend he became,
When mayhem drove the best of men to crave their mother's love,
He'd stand and croon an anthem to the gory gods above.

And on that evil morning, so deceptively serene,
Amid another carnage, just as callous and obscene
Again he took the mantle of the sainted and the strong
To save the lives of others with a blessing and a song.

Between the Hudson River and the sandy shores of Hayle,
Though eyes encompass differences of latitude and scale,
All hands are linked together in the testament they bear,
They are but Rick Rescorla’s friends, united by a prayer.

Eduvigis' name was just to big for him. He liked to be called Eddie. He was always a happy go lucky guy. He lived in Richmond Hill, Queens. Everyone knew Eddie. He was always making people laugh, loved to party, loved the New York Mets, loved the WWF and any kind of sports. He played with the kids, because he was like a kid himself. He was always looking at life like it would ever end. He always helped anyone that needed him for any reason. He loved his three daughters and loved to work. He transferred jobs and ended up in the World Trade Center, he was only there two week before 9/11. He so enjoyed being back in the city. He use to work in the WTC in the 80s for a number of years. After not having him return that horrible day, I knew Eddie was helping people out, I know… I experienced it with him once before. A few months later it was proven, Eddie did not make it because he was being a hero. No surprise to me, that was Eddie. His family misses him so much, loved him so much, it hurts so much every single day. Eddie had many many friends. Friends, co workers and family waited and hope for his safe return. Eddie did not return to us safe, but was returned to us to laid to rest, eight months after 9/11. Everyone saids Eddie is Eddie, the guy that could of run but didn't. Eddie is now in the arms of God but not alone, many traveled with him that day. The day we will never forget….the day our hearts were taken away, the last day of our beloved Eddie's life. It's hard to move on without him, but Eddie would want us to be happy and live life everyday making someone laugh and feel good. I hope that day is soon, and maybe the this horrible pain in my heart would go away and stop. Eddie will be loved and missed forever. God bless his soul.

I feel like I lost five years in just 5 minutes. Time goes by so fast but the pain still remains. Nothing will ever be the same. I'm still missing you so much. I still wish I can see your face, hear your laugh and watch your funny moves. But that's not going to happen. Every year that goes by, leaves me less and less empty. Like a feeling of major lost, not only in my heart but my soul too. No one should have to feel this kind of pain. All I have is the hope to see you in my dreams, at less that will give me a smile in the mornings. You will never be forgotten. "God Bless You And All The 9/11 Angels"
Forever in my heart & soul,
your Sis,

Francis S. Riccardelli was the vertical transportation manager at the World Trade Center complex, the man in charge of all the elevators and escalators. He loved his job so much it scared his colleagues. "One guy said, `I used to duck Francis all the time because he would come up with all these projects and they would always involve so much work,' " said his wife, Theresa Riccardelli. At home in Westwood, N.J., with Theresa and their five children, though, Mr. Riccardelli, 40, had no problem enlisting volunteers. When he went to Home Depot, 5-year- old Genevieve would ride in the shopping cart and help pick out tools. When he was taking down a wall in their house, 3-year-old Zachary would bang away at it with his plastic hammer. "He was always planning fun thing to fun thing," Mrs. Riccardelli said. "He'd get up Saturday morning and make pancakes. Friday was movie night - we'd all pile into our bed with popcorn and watch a movie together. Saturday was game night." Mr. Riccardelli had just bought a huge trailer and hoped the whole family would hike the Grand Canyon someday. "It was going to be the start of a new project," Mrs. Riccardelli said. `Exploring America." - submitted: 10/31/2001 10:14:24 PM

Francis was the husband of my sister Theresa. There are so many ways to remember Francis. On Septenber 11, 2001 he went into 2WTC to rescue people from an elevator when the building collapsed. The lives of many people were saved that day due to the heroic work of people like Francis. I will remember Francis having a wonderful time on vacation in Wildwood, NJ....June 2001. I can still picture him standing in the surf with his wife and five children. I am blessed to have known him!

I never knew Detective Richards but was there that Saturday Morning around 0300 (day after Good Friday) when his remains were discovered. I am not NYPD but I am a police officer in New Jersey who with the some other members of our department used to go on our days off to help at the site.
There were three of us that day from our department that were among the workers who took part in the recovery as well as the memorial service; It was an honor, although sad, to pay tribute to a cop such as he. All three of us on occasion still lift a glass in his memory.

Although I never met Firefighter Joey Rivelli, I wanted to add a note here. As those of us singing Mozart's Requiem as part of the 9/11/02 anniversary "Rolling Requiem" event arrived at the church in Santa Monica California, we were each randomly given the name of one of the fallen of 9/11, and I drew the name of this hero. The Requiem was beautiful and inspiring, and the 350 voices melded astonishingly well together -- I think we were all focused not only on reading the music, but on the meaning of the event and dedicating our performances to these people. I didn't know anything about Joey until I got home and found his brother-in-law's tribute and this page, but now that I've read about him I realize that New York is a dimmer place without him. My condolences to his family and friends. Jim Gillogly, Westwood California. - submitted: 9/11/2002 10:50:19 PM

While driving nearly two dawn-streaked hours from his home in Mantua, N.J., to 2 World Trade Center, where he was a managing director at Sandler O'Neill & Partners, John Rodak would plan his workday and get revved. After the markets closed, he would drive two hours back, letting go of work in the traffic and evening darkness. By the time he walked through the door again, arms open, he was completely ready for his wife and two daughters. He was there. Mr. Rodak, 39, gravitated toward activities requiring a patient, meditative discipline. Years ago, he would hunt deer and duck. Later he took up golf, then karate, which he practiced with his 10-year-old, Chelsea. Finally it was deep-sea fishing, which he shared with Devon, 5. He came across as a man without worries, with plenty of time to chat with small children, buy drinks for strangers at a bar or, on that last weekend, to make dinner for his family. For their 14th anniversary last year, Mr. Rodak gave his wife, Joyce, two crystal goblets. He also bought two sets to put aside for his daughters as a surprise on their wedding days. He chose a one-time pattern from Waterford's Millennium collection. It is called "Happiness." - submitted: 10/31/2001 10:15:32 PM

Richard was a Port Authority Police Officer. On Sept. 11th our family new that Richie was going in there to help, that's the kind of man he was. Richie was such a kind person. I mean just think of it for one second. Richie and all of the other fire fighters and also police officers were running into that building as people were trying to get out. That to me is a HERO, they all are. Richie is my hero and I love him. He was a fun guy, loved his motorcycle, and his jetski. He loved everything he did and everyone he did it with. Richie was not only a Port Authority Officer but also was in Monmouth County Pipes and Drums Band but he also was a drummer for the Port Authority Pipes and Drums. He was a member of the perth Amboy Vounteer Fire Dept. Also a volunteer for the Perth Amboy First Aid squad.Richie was a well respected man and he always wil be. Daniel Rosetti was a carpenter by trade, but he loved and lived to fish.

Mr. Rosetti loved his days on the water so much that, from boyhood, he stuffed mementos of his trips ‹ and his luck ‹ in a zipper-lined photo album. Years later, at the age of 32, he was still doing that. But the album, full of pictures and newspaper clippings, has disappeared.

"That album was old, kind of falling apart, but it was his pride and joy," said Christine Bennett, Mr. Rosetti's fiancée and the mother of Justin, their 15-month-old son. "It is killing us, because we knew how important it was to him."

On Sept. 11, Mr. Rosetti, who lived in Bloomfield, N.J., was finishing up a two-day job at Aon, the insurance company, on the 105th floor of 2 World Trade Center. That day he had taken the train into Manhattan.

"We found his car that night," said his sister-in-law, Nancy Rosetti. "He was considerate. He was always around. He always had a fishing pole with him. But that album is missing in action."

You still are a very special person in my heart and I hope that you continue to look after my brother the way you did when you were with him here. You are in my prayers. - submitted: 6/26/2003 4:40:07 PM

Todd was on a quick trip west. ''We were working on a joint venture to just get the deal done,'' says Stefan Tucker, his partner at the Washington law firm of Venable, Baetjer, Howard & Civiletti. ''He was going out on Tuesday and coming back Wednesday. I didn't know what flight he was on.'' When the Tuesday morning catastrophes of Tuesday morning began playing out on television, Tucker called Reuben's wife, Viv. ''I said, 'Tell me he wasn't on that flight.' She said, 'No, he was.''' Bart J. Ruggiere was a quintessential New Yorker. He dined in fine restaurants, proposed in Central Park and was married in St. Patrick's Cathedral. In the first days after the attack, his family thought he would turn up, said his wife, Claudia. "His sister Cathleen asked me whether Bart would consider moving out of the city. I said, no way. He belonged here." On Sept. 10, the couple had dinner at an Italian restaurant in Greenwich Village. "It was a Monday night, and for no reason, he made the reservation," Mrs. Ruggiere said, "because he believed every day is worth celebrating." He had lamb chops for an entree and chocolate soufflé for dessert. Rich food was his standard fare. A frequent host of dinner parties at their Upper East Side apartment, Mr. Ruggiere, 32, a trader at Cantor Fitzgerald, usually served steaks, mashed potatoes and chocolate soufflés. For breakfast, he usually had Krispy Kreme doughnuts or bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches. "No vegetables, no fish," his wife said. "He didn't deny himself anything. He just lived the life he wanted to live." Although he did not exercise at all, he stood 6-foot-1 and weighed 165 pounds. "After 9/11, I got a lot of letters from his friends, and many of them said they wanted to live their lives more like Bart had lived his." (nytimes.com) - submitted: 10/31/2001 10:59:19 PM

Your spirit and the very soul of you are in them. Maria transfers your hopes and dreams into their lives every single day. Since that horrific day 4 years ago I introduced Autumn and now Colin to the brighest star in the sky, their father. We talk to you quite often.
